AyzyBot does nothing in a server until you tell it to. Everything it can do is split into modules, and each server switches on only the ones it wants. This guide takes you from nothing to a working welcome message.
Add the bot to a server
- Use Add to Discord on this site. Discord opens and asks which server to add AyzyBot to.
- Pick the server. You can only add a bot to a server where you have the Manage Server permission.
- Leave the permissions Discord lists ticked and confirm. They are the ones the modules need, and nothing more: AyzyBot never asks for Administrator.
If a permission is left out, the modules that need it will say so when you switch them on, and each module's reference page lists what it needs.
Sign in and pick the server
- Sign in with your Discord account. The site only learns who you are and which servers you manage.
- Open the server list. Servers that already have AyzyBot come first; the others offer a link to add it.
- Select a server to open its dashboard.
A server is listed when you manage it in Discord, or when someone who does has given you access to its dashboard. If one is missing, see Dashboard access.
Switch on a first module
A welcome message is a good first module: it is quick to set up and easy to check.
- In the dashboard, choose the New members category, then Welcome & Goodbye in the list.
- Set Welcome channel to the channel new members should be greeted in.
- Write the Welcome message. Insert a placeholder adds things like the member's name; see Placeholders.
- Press Save changes. Nothing reaches the bot until you do.
- Switch the module on with the switch beside its name.
- Use Send test to have the message posted now, without waiting for someone to join.
Where to go next
- Finding your way round explains the dashboard: categories, search, Simple and Advanced, and saving.
- What things mean explains the words used across the site, such as tier and limit.
- The module reference has a page for every module: what it does, its settings and its commands.
- In Discord, /help lists the commands of the modules a server has switched on, and /help followed by a command name explains that command.
